What is a Parental PIN?

NOW TV has got something for the whole family – but it's not all suitable for younger viewers. That's where your Parental PIN comes in. It has 2 levels: one you can choose yourself, and one you can’t.

You’ll need a PIN to watch live Sky Cinema channels...

A PIN is mandatory if you want to watch live Sky Cinema channels, except Family and Disney. It’ll be required:
  • even if you’ve turned your Parental PIN off
  • whatever the age rating of the movie that’s showing
  • whenever you switch between channels.

...but it's optional for anything else

You can choose to set a Parental PIN to restrict shows by age rating and stop younger viewers from watching anything they shouldn't. This age restriction will apply to:
  • all live channels other than Sky Cinema
  • all on-demand movies and shows.

How to set up your Parental PIN

It’s easy to set up your PIN for the first time:

  1. Go to the Settings & PINs area of My Account (you might need to sign in)
  2. Select Set up Parental PIN
  3. Choose the age rating you want to restrict
  4. Enter your PIN, confirm your password and Save PIN.

In Settings & PINs you can reset your PIN, turn it on or off, or change your settings. For more help with PINs, see our help article on changing your PIN.

You don’t have to set up a Parental PIN unless you plan to watch live channels on the Sky Cinema Pass.

A Parental PIN is only mandatory to watch live channels on the Sky Cinema Pass. If you’ve got any of our other Passes and there are no younger viewers in your household, just select Turn OFF and you won’t be asked for a PIN.

If you’ve got a Sky Cinema Pass, you can turn off Parental PIN but you’d still need to enter your PIN to watch the live Sky Cinema channels (except for Family and Disney). But you wouldn’t need to enter it for on-demand movies, or for other Passes.

Xbox One

Xbox One has master parental controls which will override your NOW TV Parental PIN.

If you've turned off your NOW TV Parental PIN and you still can't watch certain movies or shows, you'll need to change the parental controls on your Xbox One to restore access.

You also have the option to change your family filter settings. This will block any images or content that's rated above your preferred settings.

The parental controls for PS4 don't affect your NOW TV viewing. If you have parental controls set on your PS4, you'll still need to set your Parental PINs on your NOW TV account to your desired level.

A Payment PIN helps you control who can buy new Passes. Your Payment PIN is automatically turned off when you sign up. If you’ve got kids in the house, it’s a good idea to set up your Payment PIN to prevent them from buying Passes accidentally. Just head over to the Settings & PINs section of My Account.
