How can we help?

What is a Parental PIN?

NOW has got something for the whole family – but it's not all suitable for younger viewers. That's where your Parental PIN comes in. It has 2 levels: one you can choose yourself, and one you can’t.

You’ll need a PIN to watch some live Entertainment and Sky Cinema channels between 5.30am and 9pm...

A PIN is mandatory to watch most live Sky Cinema channels (except Family) and 4 Entertainment channels (Sky Max, Sky Atlantic, Sky Comedy and Sky Documentaries).

It’ll be required:

  • even if you’ve turned your Parental PIN off
  • whatever the age rating of the movie or programme that’s showing
  • whenever you switch between channels.

...but it's optional for anything else

You can choose to set a Parental PIN to restrict shows by age rating and stop younger viewers from watching anything they shouldn't. This age restriction will apply to:
  • all live channels other than the Sky Cinema and Entertainment channels where a PIN is mandatory
  • all on-demand movies and shows.

How to set up your Parental PIN

It’s easy to set up your PIN for the first time:

  1. Go to the Settings & PINs area of My Account (you might need to sign in)
  2. Select Set up Parental PIN
  3. Choose the age rating you want to restrict
  4. Enter your PIN, confirm your password and Save PIN.

In Settings & PINs you can reset your PIN, turn it on or off, or change your settings. For more help with PINs, see our help article on changing your PIN.

You don’t have to set up a Parental PIN unless you plan to watch live Entertainment or Sky Cinema channels.

A Parental PIN is only mandatory to watch live Entertainment and Sky Cinema channels. If this doesn't apply to you and there are no younger viewers in your household, just select Turn OFF and you won’t be asked for a PIN.

If you turn off Parental PIN, you’d still need to enter your PIN to watch the live Entertainment and Sky Cinema channels where a PIN is mandatory. But you wouldn’t need to enter it for any on-demand movies or shows.

Xbox One & Series X/S

Your Xbox has master parental controls which will override your NOW Parental PIN.

If you've turned off your NOW Parental PIN and you still can't watch certain movies or shows, you'll need to change the parental controls on your Xbox to restore access.

You also have the option to change your family filter settings. This will block any images or content that's rated above your preferred settings.

PS4 & PS5

The parental controls for PS4 and PS5 don't affect your NOW viewing. If you have parental controls set on your PlayStation, you'll still need to set your Parental PINs on your NOW account to your desired level.

A Payment PIN helps you control who can make purchases using the payment details stored on your account. Your Payment PIN is automatically turned off when you sign up. If you’ve got kids in the house, it’s a good idea to set up your Payment PIN to prevent them from accidentally buying something. Just head over to the Settings & PINs section of My Account.
