Parental controls on NOW

Not all shows and movies on NOW are suitable for younger viewers – that’s where parental controls come in. 

NOW’s parental control features allow you to set profile-based maturity rating settings and a profile PIN to stop younger viewers from watching anything they shouldn’t.

Good to knowFrom 18th February 2025, we’ll be rolling out some great new features on the NOW app. The app updates will roll out over several weeks so you may notice the old and new versions running side by side on different devices. If your NOW app hasn’t updated yet, use the viewing PIN and age restriction settings in My Account. If it has updated, your viewing PIN and age restriction settings will have been removed, and you'll need to set up new parental controls in profiles you’d like to restrict.

Profile maturity ratings

When setting up a new profile, you can choose for it to be a kids profile or adult profile. Depending on the option you choose, you’ll be able to set different maturity ratings for each profile.

Once you’ve set a maturity rating, all shows and movies rated above the profile’s content rating will not be shown, including when browsing or searching on NOW.

Take a look at the available maturity ratings for kids and adult profiles below: 

Kids profile:

Maturity rating:	Available content ratings:
Little kids	U, Unrated
Older kids	PG. Designed for children ages 8+
Family	12

 

Adult profile:

Maturity rating:	Available content ratings:
Family	12
Teen	15
Adult	18+

 

Good to knowWhen you sign up or create a new adult profile, the content rating is automatically set to 18+. The content rating on new kids profiles is automatically set to 12.

To update a profile maturity rating

To change a profile’s maturity rating, you’ll need to log in to your NOW account on a web browser, or via the NOW app on your phone or tablet.

Step 1:

Head to the Who’s Watching Profiles page in the NOW app or through a web browser

Step 2:

Click on the pencil icon under the profile you’d like to edit

Step 3:

Select the Change button next to the maturity ratings setting and enter your account password

Step 4:

Select your preferred maturity rating for the profile and then click the Save rating button.

Keep in mindIf a profile’s maturity rating is updated more than 5 times in a 30 minute period, this setting will be automatically locked for 30 minutes.

 

Profile PIN

A profile PIN helps you control who can access other profiles on your account. If you’ve got kids or younger viewers in the house, we recommend setting up a profile PIN to prevent them from accessing unsuitable content in adult profiles.

Manage your profile PIN

Find out how to set up or manage your profile PIN in the steps below: 

Step 1:

Head to the Who’s Watching Profiles page in the NOW app or through a web browser

Step 2:

Click on the pencil icon under the profile you’d like to edit

Step 3:

Click on the toggle next to the profile PIN setting and enter your account password

Step 4:

Create, update or remove your profile PIN and click Save PIN.
