Red light or overheating warning on NOW Smart Stick

Occasionally, your NOW Smart Stick may overheat. This could be caused by keeping it inside a cabinet or other enclosed space, especially with other electronic equipment. If this happens, there are 2 things you might see.

The red light is on

If you’re seeing a constant (not flashing) red light on your Smart Stick, it’s a sign that your device is too hot.

What should I do?

Follow these steps to get your device working safely again, but take care when handling it – it may be hot!

Step 1

Unplug the power cable from your Smart Stick, and allow it to cool down.

Step 2

If possible, find a cooler spot for your Smart Stick.
  • Make sure it’s not inside an enclosed space, such as a cabinet.
  • To move your Smart Stick away from the back of your TV, try using an HDMI extender. (You'll need a v1.4 extender, widely available from all good electronics retailers.)
  • Don’t put it in direct sunlight.

Step 3

Wait at least 10 minutes for your Smart Stick to cool down, then plug the power cable back in and wait for it to power up.

Step 4

If you’re still seeing the overheating message, or the solid red light is still on, unplug the power cable immediately.

Step 5

Repeat step 3 one more time. If the problem persists, then you should stop using your Smart Stick.
