Can I use my NOW Box or Smart Stick in my hotel or student accommodation?

Great news! If you’ve got a NOW Box or Smart Stick, you can now take it with you when you travel.

Here’s how to set up your Box or Smart Stick so you can watch NOW on your big screen in a hotel room or student halls where you need to sign in through a web browser. 

You will need:

  • A NOW Box OR a NOW Smart Stick (don’t forget to bring the remote control and the power and HDMI cables!)
  • If you have a Smart Stick, you might need an HDMI extender if the TV is wall mounted and the HDMI port isn't easy to access.
  • A smartphone, tablet or laptop.

Keep in mind You won’t be able to watch NOW outside the EU, so these instructions will only work if you’re in the Republic of Ireland or visiting an EU country.

Step 1: Connect to the TV 

Plug your Smart Stick into the TV's HDMI port, or connect your Box to the TV using the HDMI cable, as normal. Press the input button on the side or bottom of the TV, and select the HDMI input you’re plugged into.

You should now see the home screen on your TV. In the menu, select Settings, and then Network.

Then select Set up connection, and Wireless.

Now select your hotel or building’s wireless network. This must be an unlocked network. For this example, SkyVisitorWIFI has been selected.

When you select the unlocked network, you’ll see this message:

Step 2: Connect to the network

 
Now follow the onscreen instructions.

From your smartphone, tablet or laptop, go to wireless settings and connect to your Box or Smart Stick (here, it’s Direct-roku-859-DAF5BD).

Enter the password shown on your TV screen. (A new password will be generated each time you go through setup).

Launch a browser on your smartphone, tablet or laptop to enter the required information (such as name and room number).

You should now see a message on your NOW Box or Smart Stick confirming your wireless and internet connection status:

If both connections are good, you'll get two green ticks and be taken to an About page, showing details of your connection.

Your NOW Box or Smart Stick is now ready to use as normal, so press the Home button on your remote and away you go!
