How to adjust your audio settings

If you've got NOW Boost and a soundbar or surround sound system, you're all set to enjoy your favourite sports, movies and shows in Dolby Digital 5.1 sound quality. All you need to do is make sure you've adjusted your audio settings on the device you're watching on.

To switch to surround sound (or to stereo), just follow the steps below for your device.

To select surround sound:

  • From your Box or Stick homepage, scroll down to the bottom and select Settings, then Audio.
  • The Audio Mode should be set to Auto and HDMI set to Dolby D+.

To select stereo:

  • From your Box or Stick homepage, scroll down to the bottom and select Settings, then Audio.
  • The Audio Mode should be set to Stereo and HDMI set to PCM-Stereo.

 

To select surround sound:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Surround sound is selected.
  • Step 2: On your PlayStation, go to Settings, then Sound and screen and Audio output settings and ensure Bitstream Dolby is selected.

To select stereo:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Stereo is selected.
  • Step 2: On your PlayStation, go to Settings, then Sound and screen and Audio output settings and ensure Linear PCM is selected.

 

To select surround sound:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Surround sound is selected.
  • Step 2: On your Samsung TV, go to Settings, then Sound and Additional settings and ensure HDMI Audio Format is set to Bitstream and Audio Format is set to Dolby Digital Plus.

To select stereo:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Stereo is selected.
  • Step 2: On your Samsung TV, go to Settings, then Sound and Additional settings and ensure HDMI Audio Format is set to PCM and Audio Format is set to PCM.

 

To select surround sound:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Surround sound is selected.
  • Step 2: On your LG TV, go to All settings, then Sound and Advanced settings and ensure DTV Audio is set to Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby Digital.

To select stereo:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Stereo is selected.
  • Step 2: On your LG TV, go to All settings, then Sound and Advanced settings and ensure DTV Audio is set to MPEG.

To select surround sound:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Surround sound is selected.
  • Step 2: On your YouView box, go to Settings, then Picture and Sound. If your sound system is connected by HDMI or S/PDIF, select the Surround option for the relevant setting.

To select stereo:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Stereo is selected.
  • Step 2: On your YouView box, go to Settings, then Picture and Sound. If your sound system is connected by HDMI or S/PDIF, select the Stereo option for the relevant setting.

Good to knowYou won't be able to adjust the audio settings on your TalkTalk TV 4K box (powered by Netgem TV). Surround sound is automatically applied, where available.

To select surround sound:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app on your smartphone, go to My Account and scroll down to the Playback section.
  • Step 2: Under Chromecast Sound, ensure that Dolby Digital 5.1 is selected.

To select stereo:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app on your smartphone, go to My Account and scroll down to the Playback section.
  • Step 2: Under Chromecast Sound, ensure that Stereo is selected.

To select surround sound:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Surround sound is selected.
  • Step 2: On your Xbox, go to Settings, then Volume and audio output and Speaker audio and ensure that HDMI Audio 5.1 Uncompressed is selected.

To select stereo:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Stereo is selected.
  • Step 2: On your Xbox, go to Settings, then Volume and audio output and Speaker audio and ensure that HDMI Audio Stereo Uncompressed is selected.

The steps below are for the Amazon Fire TV Stick. For other Amazon devices the instructions may vary slightly depending on the exact device and OS, but will be similar to this.

To select surround sound:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Surround sound is selected.
  • Step 2: On your Amazon Fire TV Stick, go to Settings, then Display & Sound and Audio and ensure that this is set to Dolby Digital over HDMI for the Fire TV Stick or Always Dolby Digital for the Fire TV Stick 4K.
To select stereo:
  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Stereo is selected.
  • Step 2: On your Amazon Fire TV Stick, go to Settings, then Display & Sound and Audio and ensure that this is set to Dolby Digital Plus OFF for the Fire TV Stick or Stereo for the Fire TV Stick 4K.

To select surround sound:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Surround sound is selected.
  • Step 2: On your Apple TV, go to Settings, then Video and Audio and Audio Format and Change Format, and select Dolby Digital 5.1.

To select stereo:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Stereo is selected.
  • Step 2: On your Apple TV, go to Settings, then Video and Audio and Audio Format and Change Format, and select Stereo.

To select surround sound:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Surround sound is selected.
  • Step 2: On your Hisense (VIDAA OS) TV, go to Settings, then Sound. If your peripheral sound system is connected by HDMI or S/PDIF, Audio Output is set to ARC or SPDIF automatically. Then go to Audio Output Settings and set the Digital Audio Output Format to Dolby Audio - Dolby Digital Plus.

To select stereo:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Stereo is selected.
  • Step 2: On your Hisense (VIDAA OS) TV, go to Settings, then Sound. If your peripheral sound system is connected by HDMI or S/PDIF, Audio Output is set to ARC or SPDIF automatically. Then go to Audio Output Settings and set the Digital Audio Output Format to PCM.
