How to adjust your audio settings

If you've got Boost or Ultra Boost, a supported device and a soundbar or surround sound system, you're all set to enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1 or Dolby Atmos sound quality. All you need to do is make sure you've adjusted your audio settings on the device you're watching on to switch to surround sound or Dolby Atmos.

NOW Box or Smart Stick

To select surround sound:

  • From your Box or Stick homepage, scroll down to the bottom and select Settings, then Audio.
  • The Audio Mode should be set to Auto and HDMI set to Dolby D+.

To select stereo:

  • From your Box or Stick homepage, scroll down to the bottom and select Settings, then Audio.
  • The Audio Mode should be set to Stereo and HDMI set to PCM-Stereo.

Chromecast Ultra & 3rd generation

To select surround sound, or Dolby Atmos (Chromecast Ultra only):

  • Step 1: In the NOW app on your smartphone, go to My Account and scroll down to the Playback section.
  • Step 2: Under Chromecast Sound, ensure that Dolby Digital 5.1 or Dolby Atmos is selected.

To select stereo:

  • Step 1: In the NOW app on your smartphone, go to My Account and scroll down to the Playback section.
  • Step 2: Under Chromecast Sound, ensure that Stereo is selected.

Other devices

  • Step 1: In the NOW app, go to My Account and Settings and ensure that Surround sound, or Dolby Atmos if supported by your device, is selected (or select Stereo to switch back to stereo sound).
  • Step 2: Select the appropriate audio output in your device settings. You'll usually find this by looking for Sound, Audio or similar under Settings. Check with your device manufacturer if you're not sure where to find your audio settings, or if you're unsure which option to select.
