How to fix Silverlight problems on your PC or Mac
Your Microsoft Silverlight installation may have become corrupt, or another software or service running on your PC or Mac could be stopping it from operating smoothly.
First, check that your antivirus, firewall and internet security products are up to date and running correctly, and see if these suggestions help.
If you have Avast antivirus software installed, you might also need to carry out these steps.
Open Avast and go to Settings.
Under General, select Exclusions.
Select the URL tab.
Enter *.nowtv.com/* (including the stars) and select OK.
If you're using Safari, you might need to enable the Silverlight plug-in. To find out how to do this, see our article Silverlight isn't working on Safari.
If you're using Firefox, be aware that the latest browser versions (v52 and later) don't support Silverlight. If you have v52 or later, you'll be prompted to download the NOW TV Player instead.
If you're using IE11, you can try this fix to get Silverlight working again:
- Uninstall Silverlight.
- Reboot your PC.
- Install Silverlight.
- Open the Silverlight application
- Rename the Silverlight PlayReady folder. You can find steps to do this in the last fix here.
- Select Playback.
- Tick the box next to ‘Enable download and updates to components required for protected content playback’.
Using Firefox, Chrome or Edge?
Silverlight is not supported for these browsers, so if you're using one of these you'll need to watch with the NOW TV Player instead.
